Project Description:

Introduction:

This undergraduate research project presents an exceptional opportunity for students to engage in AI research, with a specific focus on developing and implementing AI algorithms for mobile platforms like drones and self-driving vehicles. These algorithms are tailored for scenarios that are crucial for first responders, such as disaster response and emergency situations. The project aims to create and optimize AI algorithms that enhance the decision-making capabilities of these platforms, ultimately leading to advancements in autonomous systems for the benefit of our first responders and communities.

Project Goals:

  1. AI Algorithm Development (Phase 1): Create AI learning algorithms specifically designed for mobile platforms, emphasizing real-time decision-making, obstacle detection, and offline-navigation with computer vision, with a primary focus on aiding first responders in high-stakes scenarios.
  2. AI Algorithm Implementation (Phase 2): Successfully integrate and implement these algorithms on the Jetson Nano platform, renowned for its edge computing and AI acceleration capabilities, to provide tangible support for first responders.
  3. Testing and Optimization: Rigorously test and optimize the deployed algorithms on mobile platforms, ensuring efficient and effective performance in the context of emergency response and disaster management.
